Thanks to Aer and others who've helped draw attention to the Mac version of Logi Capture. To prevent the Mac from frying I'd prefer to use Logi Capture only for initial setup of the camera, if that's possible. That works, but puts a very heavy CPU load on my 2015 MacBook Pro. I see that some – though not all – video apps on my Mac recognise Logi Capture as an input source distinct from the webcam itself.

My next step is to try and use OBS or other software as a go-between to keep FaceTime from taking over the camera's settings.Īre the settings made in Logi Capture supposed to be stored in the camera, so that other apps can take advantage of them when Logi Capture itself is not running? In my experience that doesn't work. I'm curious if the others from this thread have a similar experience, which camera/video-using applications have you tried the camera with and does the issue persist if you don't use FaceTime? While I'm sure there's a CLi option to kill the facetime camera control process, I don't know what it is, and without that only a reboot releases the camera from Apple's buggy crappy clutches. All third party apps (Meet, Zoom, Messenger, etc) have no problem using the settings from both Camera Settings/Logi Capture, and even Photobooth seems ok, but as soon as FaceTime opens it takes control of the camera settings. In regards to the rest of the thread, I've noticed FaceTime is the only application unable to make use of the camera properly. Multiple responses here point to the necessary software that exists for every recent MacOS version. In the example above, we have accessed the Education Platform and used the webcam, so it appears on the list of sites under "Allow".You're right, that does sound stupid, and yes you are just missing it somehow. After checking the physical connection to the camera, we recommend that you repeat the steps in Connecting your camera.įurther down the page, you can also verify that our address, .uk, is not on the list of websites where use of the camera is blocked. If you don't find your camera listed in the menu below, there's a chance that it is not connected properly. In the case below, we have selected a laptop's built-in webcam (the laptop is made by HP). The device name will normally be named after the manufacturer's brand. Now that you are in the camera settings, you can select the camera device from a list in the drop down menu (surrounded in red by us for emphasis). Please click through again and you will see the menu of settings for your connected cameras.

When you click through to "Site Settings," the camera settings will be highlighted yellow.

You will see a yellow caption box appear above site settings. This is the first page of Chrome's settings menus, use the search box to search for "camera". The settings pages are hierarchical and you won't immediately see camera settings unless you search for them. You can navigate there from the menu on the top right in chrome.
